Product Description
The Barrico hogshead rainwater barrel is made in the UK, faithfully and directly modelled on an oak 'hogshead' barrel as featured in The Times. The end result is a stunning water butt, with the authentic look of an oak barrel and the durability and longevity of MDPE.
The word hogshead derives from the English word “hogges hede”. This popular word in the 15th century was used to measure 63 gallons. The origin is to be found in the name for a cask appearing in various Germanic languages, for example Dutch oxhooft.
The Barrico Hogshead is available in both Oak and Toasted Oak colour.
The option to increase the authentic look further is available by selecting the hand finished option. This option results in a stunning metallic band effect (Oak-Pewter/Burnt Oak -Bronze ) and a rougher wood effect on the panels.
The barrel has a potting area on the top to allow those pleasant potting tasks to be easily carried out with water available within arms reach. The potting area can be fitted with a small drain hole allowing excess water from potting activities to drain back into the tank. Alternativley the potting area can be left to be used a small water feature with a solar fountain or a bird bath!
The 120mm top access cap (black only) allows diverters with a backnut to be fitted and allows submersible pumps to be lowered in and the outlet to exit via the thumb hole.

If you plan to discharge the downpipe directly in to the rainwater barrel an overflow and hose will be required to deal with excess water.
