Spiroflow opens new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility

Darwen, UK – Spiroflow, a global leader in bulk material handling solutions and part of Automated Handling Solutions (AHS), has proudly announced the official opening of its new, 60,000 sq ft state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Darwen, Lancashire. The site was inaugurated by Mayor Councillor Brian Taylor of Blackburn with Darwen, alongside company leaders, customers, and suppliers, marking a significant milestone in Spiroflow’s ongoing growth and expansion.

This modern facility, a considerable upgrade from the previous site in Clitheroe, now represents 25% of Spiroflow’s manufacturing capacity. It is designed to serve customers across the UK, Europe, Africa, and Asia, supporting the company’s strategy for global expansion. The new site is poised to enhance lead times, improve efficiency, and support the company’s ever-growing operations.

Ben Ayrton, Managing Director/VP Operations Supply Chain Europe at AHS, commented: “This is more than just a new building; it embodies the future of our business. We’ve outgrown our old site, and this cutting-edge facility gives us the space and resources to increase production capacity, streamline operations, and elevate our customer service. The improvements will enable us to implement lean manufacturing, reduce lead times, and foster a safer, more efficient working environment.”

The Darwen facility is now the production hub for Spiroflow’s extensive range of material handling equipment. The expanded space offers dedicated build bays for each piece of equipment, increased storage capacity, and improved areas for quality control, resulting in more efficient production. With a 10,000 sq ft test bay, customers can now see Spiroflow’s latest innovations in action, with key products available for live demonstrations.

In addition to its operational capabilities, the site features modern, employee-friendly amenities, including spacious kitchens, breakout areas, and enhanced meeting spaces, contributing to an improved working environment. The Darwen facility follows the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Friedrichsdorf, Germany, in 2023, which focuses on pre-sales testing and aftermarket support. In 2025, further investment in the Darwen site will enhance the company’s testing capabilities, bringing them in line with the German Centre of Excellence.

Located near key transport links such as the M65 motorway and nearby airports, the new site offers logistical advantages that strengthen Spiroflow’s supply chain and distribution networks. Furthermore, the increased space creates new recruitment opportunities, tapping into a broader talent pool within the region.

Spiroflow’s commitment to sustainability is evident at the Darwen site, which features energy-efficient technologies like full LED lighting, hybrid heat pumps, and a comprehensive recycling program. These measures ensure that the facility promotes both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

At the opening event, over 100 guests, including key customers and partners, were invited to tour the new facility and witness the technological advancements and expanded capabilities firsthand. Ayrton added, “This new facility is a testament to our dedication to innovation, quality, and growth. We are excited to welcome our customers and partners to Darwen and look forward to a successful future.”
