On 25 February, Made in Britain delivered an online session inviting a Made in Britain company, WhiffAway Ltd., to share their experience of successfully exporting to the Latin America region.
The session also welcomed the UK Department for Business and Trade’s Free Trade Agreement Utilisation team who offered support and advice for UK exporters, including how to utilise the benefits of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). This trade agreement opens significant opportunities for UK exporters in multiple markets, including Mexico, Chile and Peru.
A representative from UK Export Academy also presented on the free training and resources DBT provides for UK businesses looking to grow their international sales.
This online session took place after the UK’s official entry into the CPTPP on 15 December 2024.
The CPTPP represents one of the world’s largest free trade areas, covering nearly 600 million people across five continents. As a comprehensive trade agreement, it not only reduces tariffs on goods but also promotes strong economic ties among member nations. For UK businesses, joining the CPTPP means greater access to diverse and fast-growing markets, particularly in the Latin America region. The agreement is set to enhance export opportunities and strengthen the UK’s economic ties with this influential region.
The session also covered Brazil as, while not part of the CPTPP, it is the largest economy in the region (and 10th largest in the world) and a globally important country. Brazil hosted the 2024 G20 and will host the 2025 COP 30.
UK exports to Latin America in 2023 were worth £45.3 billion. With a growing population and a strong trade and investment relationship, this region offers significant opportunities for UK exporters.
Made in Britain recognises the value of businesses talking with their peers, and this session facilitated that for UK exporters wanting to hear real, practical examples, directly from the exporters themselves. Whether it’s an exporter venturing into the Latin America region for the first time or one with extensive experience in the market, this session provided valuable insights.
Circa 80 companies registered for the session to listen, discuss, and ask questions.
• WhiffAway Ltd. was represented by Sebastian (Seb) Marshall, Operations & Technical Director. WhiffAway Ltd. is based in High Wycombe and has been a member of Made in Britain since 2021.
The session was hosted and facilitated by Advisor to Made in Britain and Director at MAP UK & International, George Middleton. It took place as part of Made in Britain’s International Trade Programme.
