As employers, Made in Britain companies need to be aware that the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates increased on 1 April 2025 and should ensure that workers are paid correctly in line with the new rates.
Businesses can take these simple steps to meet their legal responsibilities and avoid falling foul of the law:
- Check the new rates at gov.uk/checkyourpay.
- Identify which staff are due the new rate.
- Update payroll and communicate the changes to staff as soon as possible.
- Call the Acas Helpline (or the LRA if in Northern Ireland) to get advice and support on paying workers
correctly. - Visit the calculating the minimum wage guidance page to view practical advice.
Even if you are paying your workers an hourly wage at or above the National Minimum or National Living Wage, you could still be underpaying them. This can easily happen when an employer makes wage deductions, counts tips towards your pay, deducts work wear or tools from pay, or doesn’t pay for all time worked.
The new rates apply to all workers, whether they're in a full-time, part-time, or temporary role. Investing in your people can lead to happier workers who are more productive. The new rate increases to the National Minimum and Living Wages are part of the Government's commitment to raising living standards, creating secure work and boosting economic growth.
Made in Britian companies can go to gov.uk/checkyourpay for guidance and support.
